ESL won't disqualify teams from ESL Meisterschaft
The other day, a scandal erupted over the tournament operator ESL and its amateur league ESL Meisterschaft. Members of the league reported that ESL began to disqualify some teams that participated in the open qualifiers at DreamLeague Season 14 DPC EU, justifying this as a violation of the rules. But after public outrage, the organizer found a way for the teams to avoid disqualification.
Rules of ESL Meisterschaft prohibit players from competing for different teams at ESL tournaments. Even though Dreamhack holds DreamLeague Season 14 DPC EU, both organizations have been part of the Modern Times Group holding for a long time already. Therefore the rule applies to tournaments of both organizers.
ESL disqualified from ESL Meisterschaft such teams as Brame, which is including SsaSpartan, 5Comrades, and Exotic_Deer, and many other teams because at DreamLeague Season 14 DPC EU, their participants played for other teams. But the public didn't accept the ban, and ESL had to change its rules.
Now for all teams whose members will qualify for one of DreamLeague Season 14 DPC EU stages, 3 slots will be provided to replace players. Thus, the rule won't be violated, and the team can continue their performance.
ESL Meisterschaft runs from September 22 to January 24 and features 12 European teams. The total prize fund of the event is $31,600.
